No offense Karp and Topher, but this whole “Grammy’s plus social media = kewl!” thing that’s going on this year screams of a bunch of Old Dudes doing weird hand symbols, awkwardly bopping and saying “yeah, I’m hip, I’m down”.

OUCH.  But yes.

All true.  But it’s also true of every other awards show.  It’s just that the Grammys are particularly bad at it. I’m impressed that they’ve even heard of Tumblr. That’s an important step. Choosing to work with Tumblr at any level is an important step as well. But the next step is the big one. They need to figure out that the value is not in tumbling at us for a few hours on a Sunday night. The value is in tumbling with us. They have to be willing to climb into bed with the Tumblr community and stay there. If I felt a connected to the Grammys the way I feel connected to Newsweek, I might actually be watching right now.
Of course, the show would still suck…so that’s a problem.  I can’t solve every one of your problems GRAMMY!

Now this sounds about right (from here on known as the Newsweek Tumblr Effect). And far less cynical.
